Historic Route 66, “The Mother Road” as coined by Grapes of Wrath author John Steinbeck, travels right through Santa Rosa, NM. With travelers on this scenic byway came lots of business for the Campos Family. Joseph’s Bar and Grill, formerly La Fiesta, has seen many travelers seeking a great meal over the years. When Joseph, and his wife Christina, took over the business, they wanted to offer an experience. This included making the restaurant feel like a vintage diner. Route 66 is America’s most famous highway. While not the longest, or oldest, it carried many American’s headed West. Travelers were seeking new opportunities and prosperity during the Great Depression. Some say the highway got its popularity when John Steinbeck mentioned it in Chapter 12 of his famous book, The Grapes of Wrath. Whether that’s true or not, the fact is that everyone knows Route 66. Travelers from around the globe make trips down this historic highway every year. They experience diverse landscapes from Chicago to Los Angeles.
